For the 4th round of the CEV Championship the SAG Castrol Honda Team headed to Aragon where temperatures played a big part of the weekend. With Joan Perello coming 11th and Jonny Rosell finishing 13th it was anyones guess to how newcomer Eric Granado would end in his debut.
The rider of Balear Joan Perello made one of his best finishes with consistent lap times and stayed in 11th position the entire race by maintaining his pace. He has recovered his form and it is within his objectives to fight for the top 8 in the championship standings. For his part, Johnny Rosell from Barcelona suffered a crash during the race fighting for a position in the leading group. Rosell explains he does not deserve this result after a weekend of big progression with the bike. Starting from 14th place on the grid, Johnny was struggling for much of the race against Jack Miller leading a smaller group and didn’t want to lose a chance to fight for a much higher placing.
Passing the chequered flag 13th Johnny concludes the weekend with a positive reflection in order to make a remarkable season finale. Rookie Eric Granado made a great result in his first race of the CEV Bucker. The result for the new rider for the SAG Castrol Team was excellent as he was relegated to 30th position and passed a number of riders to finish the race in 20th very satisfied with the work done.
JOAN PERELLÓ 11th (SAG-CASTROL / / Honda) 29'13 .317:
"Today I made a terrible start which made me lose some positions at the first corner of the race but I managed to recover them in the first lap. For the next step I overtook two riders and I made an effort since then to maintain a good pace to allow me to keep the position and if possible, advance a few more positions in front. The heat has made it difficult but I imagine it was a condition for each rider so I'm very happy for the 11th position achieved today. I hope we do not stop our development and continue on this path upward as for sure we will give better results in the following races. "
JOHNNY ROSELL 13th (SAG-CASTROL / / Honda) 29'14 .601:
'I will remember this weekend with a bittersweet taste. Bitter because I know I could have been fighting for the Top 8 in the classification as the fall of Nicklas Ajo has made me distance myself from the group ahead. And sweet because despite the start of the race, the work made throughout the weekend has give us a lot more performance to keeps us confident enough to fight for prestigious positions for the remainder of the season. After a complicated first lap I stayed most of the race in 13th fighting for a position to overtake a driver. I lost a lot of time in these battles and I could not finish higher in the standings. I’m happy all forms are on the right path and I want to thank the entire set of people who help me to maintain my ambition to be every day better. "
ERIC GRANADO 20th (SAG-CASTROL / / Honda) 29'48 .396:
"I'm very happy with my debut in the CEV although it has been a quite busy race for me. With Nicklas Ajo crashing I lost a lot of positions in the first lap and the second I made a mistake losing even more positions in the race. At that moment I saw that I had only to make up ground and I began to work. I finished in 20th place so I think I have done a good job like my team because the Honda worked well and without errors. I feel very comfortable with the bike and have very good reviews from my first race where I learned a lot. Thanks to everything I think I can fight every race for a goal that I have established from the beginning of the season and it is to be in the top 15 at each visit. I want to thank the team for all the effort, sponsors and my family for the great support they give me. "
